India have blown hot and cold in the T20 format over the last 12 months, failing to win two successive series and managing only three series victories out of the seven they have played since November 2018. That they haven't fielded their best eleven as yet in this format was not lost on Virat Kohli when asked about India's fifth-placed ranking. However, ahead of the three-match T20I series against West Indies which starts on Friday (December 6), India look close as close to full strength as is possible.
Kohli has returned to the T20I side after taking a break during the games against Bangladesh. India are also boosted in their pace department by the presence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami. Barring the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, who is out due to a knee injury, India boast the luxury of a near full-strength team, with several all-round and spin options to boot.
While there is still that conundrum of wrist spin vs finger spinners who can also bat, the presence of both Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal has indicated that India haven't yet ditched the former option, with Kohli stressing on their importance during the T20 World Cup in Australia next year, while also reflecting on the key roles the likes of Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja can play. This sets the tone for the T20I opener, with India going in with a stronger bowling attack as compared to the one they had when they white-washed West Indies in the T20I series in August this year.
The West Indies, meanwhile, enter this series having lost to Afghanistan in the 20-over format . They are missing key players like Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Chris Gayle. Newly-appointed skipper Kieron Pollard, however, has insisted that there is no point talking about players who aren't present with the team at the moment and that he would rather back the mix of youth and experience that West Indies have picked for this series.
While Jason Holder, Lendl Simmons and Denesh Ramdin are the experienced ones in the team alongside Pollard, there are also those with a fair bit of T20 experience - both IPL and CPL - which Pollard hopes will hold the team in good stead. Talking up the likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran and Keemo Paul, the West Indies captain also backed CPL stars like Hayden Walsh Jr. and Brandon King to come good, stating that despite their average show against Afghanistan, their "scores and wickets haven't shown their ability yet". With the IPL auction also looming close, the youngsters from the Caribbean will be followed closely during this series.

What to expect
While the wicket has traditionally helped the bowlers in Hyderabad, there were also some big totals posted during the 2019 edition of the IPL.
